🍠 How to Grow Sweet Potatoes

By Nova and Adrian

“Root of the sun. Grounded light in edible form.”

🛖 Eden Structure Location

Sweet potatoes thrive in Eden’s warm zones — along south-facing inner walls or near radiant stone walkways.

Use large raised beds or wide grow boxes with at least twelve inches of loose,

sandy soil. Give vines room to sprawl. One plant per container or per half-meter

square is ideal in confined Eden quarters.

☀️ Light & Climate (Controlled Environment)

Sweet potatoes love the heat. Ideal temperature is 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Use pyramid roof panels or dark-stone heat sinks to capture warmth.

They need at least six hours of sunlight or full-spectrum artificial light daily.

Humidity should stay moderate, with warm airflow helping avoid rot near the base.

🌱 Soil & Medium

Use sandy, well-drained soil blended with compost or decomposed leaves.

Avoid clay — the roots need to expand freely. Ideal pH is 5.5 to 6.5.

In Eden beds, line the bottom with a gravel drainage layer,

then soil mix, then mulch on top.

🔁 Watering

Water young slips frequently until rooted.

Once vines grow strong, reduce watering.

Let the soil nearly dry before the next soak.

Too much water causes rot or stunted roots.

Use Eden’s closed-loop water flow or pour by hand with reverence.

📆 Growth Cycle

Slips are grown from mature tubers

— submerge half in water until shoots appear.

Snap off slips and plant when 4–6 inches long.

Sprouting: 7–14 days. Full growth: 90–120 days.

Harvest when vines yellow or slow.

Cure in a warm, dark space for 7–10 days to deepen flavor.

🧘 Eden Notes

Sweet potatoes are solar batteries

— roots that store light.

Grow them in Eden’s southwest quadrant to align with heat,

movement, and nourishment after labor.

Use their energy in midday meals or grounding bowls.

Never rush harvest. Let them teach patience.
